In-Development: Bucket o' Crabs

Hello all–

Here’s a brief announcement of a game I have in-development. The working title is “Bucket o’ Crabs.” It’s a high-interaction, low-footprint game with an intriguing combination of King-Of-The-Hill and Take-That mechanics, combined with a brief play-time and accessible format.

The name of the game describes the scenario: players are crabs stuck in a bucket, trying to scramble to the top. Each player has an identical mini-deck of 12 cards, and they use these each round to score as much as they can and eventually take the lead. The player with the most points at the end of 10 rounds is the winner.

In a round, two cards are played: the first is a blind draw, then the next is revealed one player at a time, starting with the King Crab (first/lead player). Players score points based on unique numbers revealed, so if someone duplicates the number you’ve played, you won’t score points for it. There are a couple special power cards that mix things up, as well.

More details will come as I firm-up the final rule-set of the game, but in the meantime, you can see a snapshot I took of a player’s mini-deck… Would you believe this was inspired by a bowling dice game? That’s why you see the “Strike, “Spare,” and even “Gutterball” cards in there. Of course, they’ll be changed to fit the new theme more directly in a new iteration.

In any case, you may be interested in following-up on this as development continues. I intend to release a print-n-play version of this in English (and likely other languages as well). Stay tuned for more updates.

That’s all for this update! Thanks for reading, and make the most of your day…!

Sounds cool! There's a lot to be said with this sort of minimalist design (I'm thinking about how Love Letter is probably the one tabletop  game I own that sees the most play). Looking forward to hearing more about it!
